On mobile devices, supporting HTML5/CSS3D technology, several options are available:

• hotspots
• labels (text)
• buttons
• floorplans
• navigation (buttons and images)

Transparent

It is completely transparent for the end user, the virtual tour will be displayed in the best technology for the host device. All the images are resized and ensure that they fit the device’s memory capacity.

Usability

Note that despite all these options are available, from an end user perspective, some of them proved to be unusable on small devices, such as phones. It is possible to produce different version of the same virtual tour, depending on the device screen capabilities, thus ensuring the best user experience.

The Andermatt Swiss Alps project is currently selling virtual apartments. The whole complex has been rendered by Mathys Partner. 36one built the virtual tour and the database connection part.

Outside

On the outside views of the complex, one can use either the arrows on the ground or the map on the left to navigate:

The map resizes itself between 50% and 25% of the screen width, thus ensuring the best possible user experience.

Houses

One can visit the current houses offering apartments.

On the upper right part of the screen is displayed in real-time the current status of the apartments. This information is retrieved from a database being regularly updated by the sellers.

For the floors without virtual tours, the visitor can display the floorplan.

Apartments status

The visitor can choose on a map the current available buildings that offer apartment for sale.

The table with the current apartment status is then displayed.

Future

This project is currently both in english and german, future version will be provided in italian and french.

The first tour of Moudon was done in 2007-2008, where HTML5 wasn’t widely used on mobile devices. Thus, the tour was a Flash only version.

As of 2012, mobile devices and HTML5 have taken a leap forward and so the Moudon virtual tour has been rewritten to support mobile devices.

Features

On the technology news, a RSS feed is offered, which contains the latest news from the city of Lausanne. You can also navigate through the Flon with an interactive map, showing you where a tour has been shot.
